Weekly series "Rueda de Casino"
Rueda de casino (or simply ‘Rueda’) is loved by every Cuban salsa dancer because of the pleasure it creates. Fun, great group atmosphere, cardio work out, memory training while discovering and repeating salsa figures… Rueda has it all! It is Cuban salsa danced with a partner (like regular salsa) with the difference that throughout the song you exchange partners and get to dance with everyone in the circle (instead of just one person). The instructor (or circle leader) calls out the moves so that everyone in the circle is synchronized.
For the Rueda series, a basic knowledge of Cuban salsa is required.
Weekly series "Son Cubano"
"El Son es lo más sublime para el alma divertir"
Son is a traditional Cuban partner dance that originated in the 1930s. Danced contra-tiempo, Son is slower than contemporary salsa and is renowned for its elegance and sophistication.
Emerging from the eastern provinces of Cuba (Oriente) in the late 19th century, Son became Cuba's national rhythm and dance by the 1930s. It beautifully blends West African, Hispanic, and local creole musical influences. Over time, its derivatives, especially Salsa, have gained global popularity.
This class will introduce you to the fundamentals of traditional Son Cubano. You’ll explore the rich history of Cuban music and dance while mastering the essential elements of Son. Learn the signature contra-tiempo timing, clave patterns, and other core Cuban musical concepts. By the end of the course, you’ll confidently execute its defining footwork and movements, including desplazamientos, caídas, planchas, and tornillos.
Weekly series "Afro-Cuban"
Expand your dance repertoire with Afro-Cuban moves! Discover the energy and rhythm of these powerful dance styles and add a new dimension to your salsa.
In this series, you will explore different dances from the rich Afro-Cuban culture, from the dynamic Yoruba dances like Elegguá and Changó to the vibrant Congo dances like Palo and Makuta.
Afro-Cuban movements are deeply rooted in the Yoruba religion, which West Africans continued to practice in Cuba after being enslaved and brought to the island. The orishas each symbolize different elements of the natural world and are represented by characteristic movements.
The arrival of African slaves in Cuba introduced a culture of dance with extraordinary richness. Many of these traditional dances have become an important part of Cuban dance culture, offering inspiration and depth to salsa. Cuban salsa dancers often incorporate these Afro-Cuban moves into their social dancing, adding flair and authenticity.
This Afro-Cuban series are taught by Edel, a former member of the Ballet Folklorico de Oriente in Cuba. He is perfect for bringing an authentic experience.
This class is open to everyone, regardless of previous experience, though it does require a level of control, coordination, and body movement. We recommend it for those with at least some dance background.
Note: Afro-Cuban classes will be 1,5 classes each due to the characteristics of this style. Therefor, the price per series will be € 120.
